My new job! And a brief history of my career.

Hi!

As you know, I am a nurse!  But it took awhile to get to this point.  I moved a few states away from where I grew up to go to my dream school, where I studied music.  I play the clarinet, and worked hard to earn a Bachelor’s degree in music.  But by the time my four years of studying music were up, I realized my aspirations of becoming a music therapist may not be the best career path for me.  So I looked into nursing and fell in love.  ♥

I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts degree in music and a minor in psychology, then was accepted to an excellent nursing school where I earned my Bachelor of Science in nursing degree last year.  Then a year ago on June 25, I took and passed the NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses)!  That was an extremely difficult exam, y’all.  But I am so blessed that I passed on my first try.

I worked for about 9 months in labor & delivery and postpartum.  Floor nursing was fabulous, and I loved watching new life join our world, watching women become moms, and helping women take care of their newborns.  Of course, there were high highs and low lows.  It’s the nature of L&D.  I am so grateful for my experiences in floor nursing and wouldn’t trade them for anything.

Now I’m on a new journey!  Today I start work in the operating room.  I’ll have 8 weeks in training, learning all about how to prioritize my patients in a completely different way than I ever have before.  I’ll see life-changing surgeries.  I’ll be a part of a world-renowned team (really, though).  I’ll learn how to care for patients in every-second-counts situations, and completely routine situations.  Perioperative nursing is historical, significant, and unique.  I’m really blessed to have been chosen for this position.

Not lost on me is that a year ago today, I got engaged!  And a year ago on Wednesday, I started my first job as an RN.  (This weekend in 2015 was a big one!)  This year, it’s another new start for me.  I can’t wait to get started!

I’ll keep y’all updated!

xoxo
